The exhibition Where the Wild Things Grow will be on display for the first time in Hamburg and consists of a site-specific, large-scale fiber art installation; a sound-art element created in collaboration with British film composer Sion Trefor; and new works on canvas from the series Sounds I’ll Never Hear, which features Morales’ signature visual world of mixed-technique painting with textile components.

“The textile works of Beatriz Morales drape into the room like giant furs of mystical creatures. With these works, the Mexican artist wants to reinterpret a traditional raw material of Mayan culture: the fibers of the agave plant. Her compositions convey an archaic power that bursts into the exhibition space like colorful cascades of three-dimensional brushstrokes. Beatriz Morales is a person who carries the love of the world in her eyes. If one comes face to face with the Mexican-Lebanese artist, there is a clear feeling of a free and yet clearly structured power combining with a balanced spirituality. The decision to use almost exclusively organic materials for her painting and installation works is her pragmatic response to the challenges of our time: we humans are trying more and more to deal with raw materials in a more conscious way, in order to do justice to the natural cycles of a healthy planet.
The elaborate artistic production processes involved in dyeing and seemingly endless knotting of plant fibers is reminiscent of a mantra, bringing the artist and her team into an emotional space where our ever faster moving world slowly comes to a standstill.
One could think that her artworks carry this natural aura of tranquility further through space and time. Just as Beatriz Morales; fluid paintings find their way onto jute canvases, her room-filling compositions find a form and aesthetic that reminds the viewer of the shadows cast by windy treetops and the course of wild mountain streams. In fact, the artist sees herself as a translator of vibrations and energies in nature. She has the sensitivity to absorb them intensively and to reproduce them in her art in a complex way.
Beatriz Morales is one of the strong artistic advocates and representatives of our universal mother: Mother Nature.”
